Dan interviewed on the Demzley Show

I thought I'd break from tradition and have a "video only" blog entry today.

This is in an interview conducted by my friend Duane Emsley who runs the Youtube-based "Demzley Show" - a great idea and heaps of fun. If you haven't caught Duane's show before, please do. He is a very able and talented martial artist and a highly creative individual who brings his own quirky style and colour to Youtube. It was an honour to be asked on his show.

In the interview I cover my thoughts on a wide range of martial matters including kata, the origins and evolution of karate, conflict management and resolution and much, much more.

I hope you enjoy it!

  1. Very nice, Dan! You were clear and coherent, and gave me some real insight.

Were the questioning and answering sessions done on different days? I kept getting this feeling you two weren't talking to each other at the same time.

I have two requests after watching this:

    1) Is there any way that you can configure this blog to send automatic emails informing us of updates if we so wish for certain articles, in the way that Martial Development does? (I don't have a blogger.com account, so do forgive me if it does for people who do have an account.) The other measures you have enacted to make this blog more convenient to access have been successful, and I think this would be the next step.

    2) Might you please explore the yamazuki/yamatsuki either in your book or in a post? I was taught this technique at a young age from my father for sparring between him and me, and he always used it to beat me. I value it highly, but I haven't seen anyone else do it or even talk about it anywhere, except where mentioning that it is illegal in karate competitions.

  2. P.S.

Have fun on your trip to visit your master Chen Yun-Ching.

Also, where are the martial arts resources you recommended, which you said were in the left panel? I have only been able to find blogs you like.

  3. Hi Mohammad.

    Thanks for your kind words.

No, the Demzley Show is done by Duane posting a series of questions in one video and the interviewee posting another interview. Just for fun, I interposed Duane's questions any my answers in my response video (although I didn't originally intend to do so, so it isn't quite as smooth as I would have liked).

I'll investigate how emails can be sent. I suspect you'll need to have a blogger account, or at least a Google one. I'm not sure. I'll get back to you.

I shall explore the yamazuki in the near future!

Thanks for your continuing support. All the best to you and yours for 2011!

  4. Underneath "About me" you'll see a black advertisment for "Goju ryu study guide" - that's the resource about which I was speaking.

  5. Hi Mohammad, you'll notice that I've added an email subscription widget at the top right hand side of the blog!
